Day 4: I may have cheated…
Thankfully today was the last day of class for the week…I am definitely looking forward to making up some sleep over the weekend. I have been fairly impressed with myself, though, for making it on time to all four classes and blogging about all of them. *pats self on back*
Without a doubt today’s class was the most challenging by far. My hamstrings were already super sore from yesterday’s deadlift workout, and the additional exercises we learned today were the medicine ball clean (basically a deadlift + squat) and kettlebell swing.
The last circuit was what killed me:
- 500m row
- 30 medicine ball cleans
- 30 kettlebell swings
- 500m row
In fact, I have to admit that I’m not sure I did 30 medicine ball cleans…I’m not very good at counting reps when I’m about to hyperventilate. I’m pretty sure I did more than 20, though technically I may have cheated since it still could have been less than 30.
Not only that, I was seriously out of breath on the kettlebell swings and wanted to stop after twentysomething reps, but I thought about how hypocritical that would have been after a week of blogging about how Joan was cheating in Crossfit and why would anybody do that?
Is it really cheating if you only missed a few (<5) reps since you weren’t able to keep track of counting to 30? At least, isn’t it better than miscounting by 10 or more, or completing 2 of 3 circuits and saying you completed all 3? At what point does it become a double standard since it’s okay for you and not okay for other people? I guess it’s pretty easy to make that determination if I’m the one judging Joan and making excuses for myself.
So yeah, I completed all my kettlebell swings…I think, anyway…
Ted, thanks for your courage for speaking out your thoughts, especially right after this horrible event. It's been a a…
